“All you need to dois topour out all your best in every race you participate” this was the message ofSixto Lalanto, a member of the junior training pool during yesterday’s first session of the free basic triathlon clinic in line with the 2012 Century Tuna SuperTrikids race. Triathlon is being considered as a way to avoid any kind of health related problems such as arthritis which may lead to excruciating pain and pushes patients to get an artificial hip replacement surgery which the United States Food and Drug Administration(FDA) disapproved DePuy hip replacement over safety data.
Lalanto, who is 14 years old, was invited to be a part of the training pool to get a chance to be selected for the 2014 World Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing China after he joined a triathlon training camp a year ago. The training camp was a part of the 2011 national grassroots developmental program, which serves as a talent identification project to train and develop young athletes.
Lalanto added that it is not a guarantee that an athlete will automatically represent the country for the Youth Olympics after being recruited in the training pool. He said thathe will notgo too complacent as he is up with a very tight competition because every year there are more new recruits whoshowso much potential.
“One thing that I should always be on the look-out is to avoid injury,” saysLalanto, who believes that participating in triathlon may help him attain a sound mind and a way to be free from any kind of ailment.
He added that there is an age limit of 17 years old in the youtholympics if he will begiven the opportunity, it willserve as his first and last.
Temporarily, national coach Melvin Fausto, host of the event, tackled about the growingcommunity of triathlon in the country and its potential during the clinic. He wassurprisedwith the great number of participants which has reached to 40 kids.
“I was impressed after the first session; everyone can swim well and can follow instructions well. Very important in triathlon is to have a good swim background, I saw great potential among the participants,” saysFausto, who was responsible in recruiting Lalanto to the junior training pool.
He added that after the first session, he received a request from parents and organizer for another clinic by the end of April.
The three youngest triathletes at the age of five who will be participating the race are Ana Sophia Slachter, Savvi Chiongbian and Paolo Guidicelli.
Milite Chiongbian, the mother of Savvi says that she encouraged her children to participate in a triathlon race because they will be able to gain a lot of health benefits which may prevent the development of health issues such as arthritis that may trigger a hip replacement surgery leading to aDePuy Pinnacle.
